Behind the Wheel: A Day in the Life of Adam Clark, Jays Logistics Driver

Meet Adam Clark — one of the many dedicated drivers at Jays Logistics (South West) Ltd, based in the heart of Somerset. With over a two decades on the road, Adam has seen it all — early starts, long hauls, tight schedules, and the occasional unexpected challenge. But for him, no two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly what he loves about the job.

Early Mornings and Preparation

Adam’s day begins before sunrise at the Jays Logistics depot. With a quick coffee in hand, he checks his manifest and walks around his vehicle for his pre-drive inspection. “The checks are really important,” Adam explains. “It’s not just ticking boxes; it’s about making sure I, the load, and everyone else on the road are safe.”

Once the checks are complete, Adam secures his first load of the day — a mixed pallet delivery heading to a local warehouse. The forklifts hum, paperwork is signed and in no time, Adam is rolling out of the yard.

On the Road: Focus and Flexibility

As he heads along the A38, the Somerset countryside glows with morning light. Adam tunes into his usual morning radio and keeps a close eye on traffic updates. His route today will keep him local around Highbridge & Weston before returning for afternoon collections.

“People think it’s just driving,” he says. “But it’s more than that. You’re managing time, routes, customer expectations, and sometimes the weather — all at once.”

Throughout the morning, Adam completes a series of deliveries, unloading pallets with precision and chatting with warehouse staff. “Building relationships is part of the job,” he explains. “When customers know and trust you, everything runs smoother.”

Challenges on the Move

By midday, Adam receives a call from the ops team with news of a road closure on route. Adam quickly coordinates with the team in the office. Together, they reroute him through smaller roads — a tight squeeze for his artic, but nothing he hasn’t handled before. “That’s where experience is critical,” he laughs. “You stay calm, think ahead, and keep moving.”

Despite the detour, he keeps to schedule, delivering his final drop on time. “Communication is everything,” Adam says. “Our planners are brilliant — we all work as one team to keep things flowing.”

The Final Stretch and Job Satisfaction

In the afternoon, Adam heads to a local manufacturer to collect a return load bound for Edinburgh. The collection is straightforward, and by the time he’s back at the depot, the sun is setting over the yard.

“It’s a long day, sure,” he admits, climbing down from the cab, “but when you know you’ve done a good job, kept customers happy, and everything’s moved safely — that’s what it’s all about.”

Pride on the Road

Drivers like Adam are the backbone of Jays Logistics (South West) Ltd. Their professionalism, dedication, and pride keep businesses across the region moving every single day. Behind every successful delivery, there’s someone like Adam — representing the company’s commitment to reliability, safety, and service on every mile of the journey.
